Bali Silent Day – Nyepi
Nyepi’ is a Hindu holiday that is celebrated annually. On year 2013, Nyepi falls on Tuesday, March 12, 2013.
The main purpose of Nyepi is pleading before God Almighty, to purify Buwana Alit (Human Side / Microcosmos) and Buwana Agung / Macrocosmos (the universe).
There are several series of exercising Nyepi day, they are:
The Hindu people perform purification ceremonies also called Melis Melasti / Mekiyis. On that day, all the existing means of praying in the temple (shrine) in procession to the beach or lake, as the sea or lake is the source of holy water (Tirta Amerta) and can purify all “leteh” (gross) in man and nature.
The day before Nyepi, namely the “Tilem Sasih Kesanga” (the 9th Black Moon), Hindus perform ritual Bhuta Yadnya at all levels of society, ranging from individual families, hamlets, villages, districts, and so on, to take one one of the types ‘Caru’ (sort of offerings) according to his ability. Tawur or Pecaruan itself a consecration / Pemarisuda Bhuta Kala, and all ‘leteh’ (defilement) is expected to vanish all.
Bhuta Yadnya is addressed to the Bhuta Raja, Bhuta Kala and Bahtara Kala , by pleading that they do not disturb people.
Followed by Mecaru Pengerupukan ceremony, the spread Tawur rice, torched house and the yard and hitting any objects (usually drums) to sound crowded / noisy.
This stage is done to drive Bhuta Kala from the house, the yard, and the environment.
Lodging in Bali, Pengrupukan usually celebrated with a parade of Ogoh-Ogoh which embodies Bhuta Kala who paraded around the neighborhood, and then burned. The aim is the same, namely expelled Bhuta Kala from the surrounding environment.
Summit of Nyepi Day, In today’s atmosphere as dead. No busy activity as usual. On this day Hindus perform “Catur Brata” Penyepian which consisting of ‘Amati Geni’ ( no fire/light), ‘Amati Karya’ (did not work), ‘Amati Lelungan’ (not traveling/not allowed to exit the house yard), and ‘Amati Lelanguan’ (not listening entertainment).
And for those that can also perform Tapa Brata, Yoga, and Semadhi. No activity as usual. All activities were eliminated, Including public services, such as the International Airport, Harbor was closed, but not for hospitals.
Ngembak Geni, a day after the feast day of Nyepi, all the activity back on track. On this day the Saka New Year for a second day. Hindus did “Dharma Shanti” with a large family and neighbors, give thanks and sorry forgive each other, to begin a new year a clean sheet.

Welcoming Chinese New Year in Kuta
To welcome the Chinese New Year 2013, one of the society in Kuta, Banjar Darma Semadi would hold a parade of four Barongsai/Lion and two Dragon at Dharmayana Vihara area and main streets in the Kuta area.
This ritual procession in unique packaging and interesting attractions in Kuta tourist area will start the celebration of the Chinese New Year in 2564 which will be held on Saturday afternoon, February 9, 2013.
Performances of Barongsai/Lion and Dragon circumference is scheduled to last about two hours, between 16:00 to 19:00 pm and attempted not interfere with traffic flow which has always been busy.

Bali Getting Ready To Host APEC 2013
All stakeholders of tourism in Bali getting ready to welcome the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) next, which will be held in November 2013. This international event will have a positive impact on the economic conditions in Bali.
As part of its preparation to host the APEC summit, the central government has also focused on improving the infrastructure on the island with several construction projects. Ngurah Rai airport expansion project is ongoing, Dewa Ruci and construction of highway underpasses connecting Nusa Dua – Benoa and Ngurah Rai International Airportis to improve public facilities on the island and all are expected to be completed in the first half of 2013.
Beside the basic infrastructure, a number of new hotels are being built in Nusa Dua and its surrounding area. In Nusa Dua, at least 1,319 new luxury hotel rooms will be added for the APEC summit. Some of the new rooms will be in six new hotels to be built in the area, one of which is the contentious Mulia Resort at Geger Beach.
The Nusa Dua luxury-hotel enclave is already home to 4,000 rooms in 15 hotels. Besides bringing infrastructure improvements, the APEC summit are expected to serve as a free-of-charge promotion for tourism in Bali. There will be 21 heads of state are scheduled to attend APEC. In addition to world leaders, journalists from around the world will also come to cover the event.
APEC summit should provide an opportunity to promote culture and tourism in Bali, and many of Bali’s best products and can be used as momentum to improve the image of Bali tourism through a variety of arts and cultural performances.
Road Closure Plan On New Year’s Eve 2012
To anticipate any crowd and traffic jam in Kuta area on New Year’s Eve 2012, the Police will close lane Kuta dan Legian Beach as follows:
1. Monday, December 31, 2012 at 14:00 will be held a Parking cleaning vehicles along the main road of Kuta, Kuta Beach street, and along Jalan Melasti Kuta square.
Road closures will take place from 16:00 until after the new year 2013.
2. Parking area: Central Parking Kuta, a Tourist Village area.
3. The path that will be totally closed :
· Dewi Sartika street and will be rerouted to Singosari street
· Ciung Wanara street – Simpang Bemo Corner – Simpang Temacun will be rerouted to Imam Bonjol street / By Pass Ngurah Rai street
4. Traffic flows from Seminyak to Legian will be rerouted to Sriwijaya street – Patih Jelantik street – Dewi Sri street towards to Sunset Road Kuta, Legian street will be totally closed.
5. Traffic flows from the Sunset Road Kuta to the Nakula and the Kartini streer will be transferred to Simpang Dewa Ruci as Seminyak road will be totally closed.
