Nusa Dua Beach Hotel & Spa Sets Standard
EarthCheck, the world’s leading sustainable travel and tourism certification organization has recognized Bali’s Nusa Dua Beach Hotel & Spa, resort’s commitment to environmental practices.
The EarthCheck Program evaluates key environmental indicators such as energy and water consumption, and total waste production as well as community commitment.
Using the EarthCheck tool, Nusa Dua Beach Hotel & Spa committed itself to benchmarking local environmental and social issues such as biodiversity conservation, environmental investment and enhanced community benefits. This included submitting a year’s worth of operational data, and having it compared with that of similar properties. As a result, it achieved Bronze Benchmarked status.

“Going well beyond mere “tick box” action is not a simple task,” he continued. “It involves the commitment of all staff, visitors and key stakeholders. “Nusa Dua Beach Resort & Spa has become an example of a community organisation dedicated to environmentally sustainable living, and the EarthCheck logo serves to demonstrate that its claims are credible,” he added.

Bali has geared up to try and get rid of its number one concern, Pollution. With the Bali Clean & Green program, thousands of Balinese took part in cleaning up approximately 50 beaches for beached trash on August 27. This clean up comes in ahead of a ‘Clean Up Bali day’, which is set for September 20, to coincide with ‘Clean Up the World’ weekend.
The coordinator Bali Clean & Green’s, Nunie Kneip said “We are trying to generate greater awareness, having locals and visitors connected and aware about the danger garbage poses, especially plastics”
Bali is part of Indonesia’s archipelago, it is easy for rubbish and trash from one island to wash away to the coast of another islands, and the “trash vortex,” an threatening floating garbage pile almost the size of Texas that floats in the North Pacific, presents its own part to the problem.

Bali Environmental Program 2010
Conrad Bali Resort & Spa
As a part of its 2010 environmental program, one of 5 star hotels on the beach at Tanjung Benoa, Conrad Bali, has just planted 500 mangrove saplings at the neighboring Tengkukung Beach.
It is Bali provincial forestry office that provided for the local community in support of the coastal preservation efforts.
Michael Burchett, the General Manager of Conrad Bali said: “Team members at Conrad Bali felt strongly about playing a part in conserving the lovely beaches where Conrad Bali is situated.
“The planting of the mangrove trees will assist in the protection of the coastal environment in Bali and also guarantee the sustainability of the people and communities that live here.”
Mangrove trees help to keep coastal areas protected from erosion and storm surges particularly during cyclonic weather and tsunamis

Bali Governor Recommending International Standards
Regencies and Cities in Bali are starting to clean up using the International quality standards as a guide in keeping the environment of Bali clean. The Governor of Bali Made Mangku Pastika has recommended this improvement of cleanliness as Bali is seen as one of the top tourist destinations in the world.
Cleanliness and garbage has become one of the most serious and sensitive issues in Bali recently and it’s due to tourists in Bali starting to complain about Bali’s waste management. It has become a challenge for Bali’s government as well as the people in Bali to keep maintaining their environments cleanliness and quality.
The Bali Governor went on to say, “We should be more consistent. People have given us the number one title and we should show them we are number one”
