Travel Advisory ignored by Australian Tourists

The travel advisory caution from Australia government through Department of Foreign and Trade (DFAT) regarding the taxi’ chaos in did not reduce the number of Australian tourists heading to . The head of Bali Tourism, Ida Bagus Subhiksu described the significant increase of visiting Australian tourists during the period of January until July 2010. It reached more than 300,000 tourists compared to the same time last year. The ease of access made Australia tourists choose Bali as their second home.

Based on archives from the Tourism Office in Bali, the number of Australia tourists visiting Bali during the period of January until July 2010 increased 50,8 percent compared to the same period last year. “Although there are travel warnings, they are still visiting Bali because they see Bali as their second home,” he said.

I.B. Subhiksu also added tourists from another country like Taiwan, British, Singapore and Holland also increased. Even tourists from Singapore increased by 56 percent during that period.

The owner of Puri Saron Hotel, Dr. I Ketutu Putra Suarthana, M.M. said this increase is beyond the last prediction. Despite the travel advisory and warnings, until now has not influenced their visit into Bali.

These last few months, Australian tourists have dominated the occupancy in hotels. He said the crucial problem faced by the hotel industry group right now is the increase of TDL, and the raise of Ground Water tax (ABT). These factors will influence the rise of operational expenses, added with the other expenses, which are rising slowly. “We hope our government will counter the expenses that influenced to economy climate,” he said.
